When a building is being constructed, some calculations are made in terms of engineering and there are gaps left along the length where necessary.
It has four main objectives. These are sitting and expansion, earthquake, vibration, movement gaps.
These gaps should be isolated from water and other effects in order to prevent the building from being damaged by the movements over time. The methods applied to close these joint gaps are called dilatation isolation.
